Lamaze Evidence Based Labor Support Skills Workshop
Purpose: The purpose of this activity is to increase participant skills in the provision of evidence-based labor support to promote a natural, safe and healthy birth.
Target Audience: This workshop will benefit staff nurses, midwives, and other health care providers who care for childbearing women.
Objectives:
- Analyze the nurse’s impact on maternal and neonatal outcomes and on maternal satisfaction
- Describe the role of the nurse in promoting normal, physiologic labor and birth
- Evaluate intra-partum practices according to standards of evidence-based care
- List components of a safe and supportive birth environment
- Practice a wide variety of non-pharmacologic labor support techniques which both enhance labor progress and decrease pain
- Adopt evidence-based strategies for supporting a laboring woman during second stage
- Describe effective practices to promote first attachment and exclusive breast milk feeding.
- Identify strategies to overcome barriers to change

Requirements for successful completion:
A total of 7 contact hours may be earned as CNE credit for attending the entire workshop and completing a participant feedback form.
Lamaze International is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Participants may also earn 7 Lamaze contact hours upon completion of this activity and the participant feedback form. Partial credit is not available.
